The Bachelor Chef Ryan Eli Salter

Friday May 13th I attended A Young Palate fashion Tasting at Public Factory in Soho. My friend , Ryan Eli Salter is The Bachelor Chef. I told him I wanted to photograph some food for my website I'm building and he invited me. I was my first time attending a food tasting event and it was also my first time photographing an event in NYC.

The event was hosted at The Public Factory which is a beautiful retail space that house about 15 unique men's and women's wear designers.

Fashion Tasting included (3) Carribean-Soul Inspired Dishes:
Grilled Chicken w/ BBQ Jerk Glaze & Mango Salsa on a Torta Roll
Shrimp Gyoza w/ Black Garlic & Chardonnay Sauce
Pineapple & Jalapeno Cerviche w/ Plantain Chips

I'm not a big fan of extremely spicy foods but those grilled chicken sliders with the bbq jerk glaze were delicious. My favorite was the Shrimp Gyoza w/ Black Garlic & Chardonnay Sauce. They were really good.

The Bachelor Chef with his sous-chef/ sever/ business partner extraordinaire Kathleen Adams
The beverage of the night was fresh lemonade with rosemary and basil leaves perfectly complimented the jerk chicken

After the Tasting, guests are escorted to HAUS Nightclub in TriBeCa for an after-party to remember... I was tired. I went home.

I met fitness/ commercial model Darius Williams in the summer of 2011. He had just moved to NYC from Louisiana and reached out to me hoping we could work together. The minute i met him I saw something in him and was interested in working with him.

In the beginning, it was tough. Darius isn't the typical skinny fashion model type...he's got a lotta junk in the trunk. A lot of people in this industry wasn't really interested in working with a black guy, especially one his size. I didn't care, I was up for the challenge of creating work that shows he was marketable and could sell products..... I believed in him.

Despite all the odds that Darius faced, he was dedicated and believed in himself. His drive, focus, and  "never quit" attitude helped him get signed to one of the top men's agencies in the world and work with major commercial and fitness brands like Polo Ralph Lauren, Nike, Macy's, Reebok, Target, and 2Xist underwear. Many times when models start booking jobs, they tend to dismiss the people who believed in them in the beginning. They don't want to diminish their "brand." Darius wasn't that type of guy. He remained humbled and treated me the same. Maybe it's a southern thang because both of us are proud southerners.

Darrius Williams is currently represented by Soul Artist Mgmt.
